Annabel Lee - Close Up Mousepads
Illustration is from The Bells and Other Poems by Edgar Allan Poe (1912). Edmund Dulac was born in Toulouse, France in 1882. From the age of 22 he was commissioned to illustrate a number of books including the collection of Poe's poems (1912). After WW1, the not-deluxe edition illustrated book became a rarity and Dulac's career in this field was over. His career continued in other areas however, including newspaper caricatures, portraiture, theatre costume and set design, bookplates, chocolate boxes, medals, and various graphics He also designed postage stamps for Great Britain. Dulac continued to produce books for the rest of his life, more so than any of his contemporaries, although these were less frequent and less lavish than during the Golden Age.
