Also called the "Polar" or "White" Wolf, the Arctic wolf is a subspecies of grey (or "timber" wolf) noteable for its adaptation to an extreme environment, its striking white colour, and its lack of fear of man. Generally smaller than other wolves at 3-5 feet in length, Arctic wolves are also generally bulkier, with full-grown males weighing between 100 and 175 pounds. A bulky body is just one adaptation to extreme cold, as Arctic wolves are found in the northernmost parts of North America, an environment so hostile that even humans have made barely a toehold.
