The ship is a sloop-of-war, the USS Constellation (1854), which was constructed in part from the 1797 frigate Constellation. She was the flagship of the US African Squadron, which disrupted African slave trade, was a Union vessel in the American Civil War, brought famine relief to Ireland, was a Naval Academy training ship in WWI, and a reserve ship in WWII.
