八つ水車 STANDARD APRON
【やつすいしゃ】水車紋、別名柄杓車（ひしゃくぐるま）紋ともいう。水車を象った紋である。水車は、水力を利用して回す車で、輻に板をつけたものと、輪周に柄杓をつけたものと二種類ある。そしてこの柄杓をつけたものを呼んで柄杓車という。紋章にしたのは、この柄杓車であるという。しかるに、後世にいたって、この柄杓が槌の形に似ていることから、これをまちがって、槌車と称し、わざと槌の形をまねて作ったことから、世間にある紋帳には、この名称をかかげている。しかし、それが槌を象ったものでないことは・・・『寛政重脩諸家譜』・・にも水車八柄杓と明記してあるのでもわかる。（沼田頼輔著「日本紋章学」）／この呼称は丹羽基二著「まるわかり日本の家紋」によった。

My daughter in law loved this gift. She loved the shorter length and the pockets. Good durable fabric and well made. Would highly recommend. The printing was awesome.. the only comment I would make is that the print could be placed higher on the bib part as when it is tied around the waist you can’t see the writing well.
