【なんぶづる】鶴紋。 そこがまだ蝦夷地の観念から抜けきれなかったころから、南部家の祖先は奥羽に来住していた。頼朝の平泉藤原氏討伐の時、南部光行が軍に加わったのが始まりで、功によって、与えられた岩手県北部から青森にかけての糠部地域を中心として、後に一戸・七戸・四戸・九戸と地盤を拡大した。(中略)これは出羽の秋田氏討伐のとき起こった話として伝えられている。そのときの大将南部守行。たまたまその陣中に、二羽の丹頂鶴が舞い降り、旗すれすれに舞いあがりすること幾度も。天の味方する瑞兆か、その日大勝を得た。すなわち、瑞祥の紋として「鶴」が取り上げられたのである。そして、菱鶴→鶴の丸→対い鶴(南部鶴)と変化をした。(高橋賢一著「大名の家紋」参考)
