【ひだりみつともえ】巴紋／巴の左右は渦の巻き方ではなく、作図上から作られた合理的な名称なのでした。こうしたことは、上絵師ならすぐに判ることですが、一度も紋を作図したことのない先生はただ渦の巻く方向にだけ気を取られるのでしょう。しかし、上絵師でも咄嗟に巴の左右に迷うことがあります。そんなとき、上絵師はうまい口伝を思い出します。・・・まず左掌を握って手首を見ます。するとその形が左巴の形になっているのです。右掌を握れば、たちどころに右巴の形が現れるわけです。（泡坂妻夫著「家紋の話」P61）／この図案は、地抜き（摺込み）仕様です。摺込みというのは・・作図して巴を切り抜いて型紙を作り・・この型紙を生地の上に置き、塗料を刷毛で摺込む、その技法からきた言葉です（泡坂妻夫著「卍の魔力、巴の呪力」Ｐ１４６参考）
