A Game of Billiards Poster

A Game of Billiards Poster

A Game of Billiards Louis-Leopold Boilly(1761-1845) Medium: Oil on canvas Year: 1807 Housed at: Hermitage, St. Petersburg, Russia Recommended printing size at 300 PPI: 27x16 in Closest to original: Approx. 31.9x22 in Maximum at 100+ PPI: 72x42.7 in Before placing your order, select the “Customise it!” button on the lower right below “Add to cart,” then select “Print Options” mid-upper left. Enter one of the dimensions for the desired frame size. Boilly's painting encapsulates the era of social change in France after the Revolution of 1789, with its affirmation of new tastes and norms of behaviour. During the period of the Directory and the First Empire, billiard rooms became like clubs to which people came not only to play the game but also to meet friends, to make new acquaintances, to gossip and flirt. Here titbits of family and society news wereexchanged, the latest political and social events were discussed. The main character of the painting is a woman playing billiards, which testifies to the liberal manners of Napoleon I's age, since before that only men were fond of this game. Boilly's fine observation and presentation of characteristic figures of different ages and social groupings, as well as his skill in conveying light, space, details of the interior and costume, rank him among the greatest genre painters of the 17th and 18th centuries. I originally ordered this print in a larger size but was not pleased with the clarity of it. When I contacted Zazzle, they responded really quickly and were very helpful. I was able to reorder the print in a smaller size and it was shipped to me within a couple of weeks. The print was packaged well to ensure there was no damage during transit (Eco friendly, too!), and I am really pleased with it. I am so grateful to the customer service team for the professional way they handled my order. I had this printed on matt finish card and I was really pleased with the quality. The colours were rich and the image sharp.
