Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Abbott Fuller Graves was a painter and illustrator who specialised in floral still life and decorative open air garden paintings. In 1884 Graves went to Europe to refine his skills as a flower painter, training in France as well as Italy. His use of thick brushstrokes, bright colours, and natural light reveals the influence of European impressionism
