Airship at Auteuil Postcard
Excitement surrounded the development of hot air balloons in the late nineteenth century. This amazing wood engraving documents the departure of an airship powered by an electric motor. Albert and Gaston Tissandier developed the motor and launched the balloon from Auteuil, Paris, France in 1883. The original print was damaged and this image was carefully edited to remove the distraction.
