Al Jolson In Concert Shirt w/ Tour Dates on Back!

In 1949, Al Jolson embarked on his last tour, in order to promote the second autobiographical movie about his life, "Jolson Sings Again". Nearing the end of his life, at age 63, he once again mesmerised audiences as he had done decades earlier on Broadway, and then on Radio and the Big Screen. Backed by a 7 member band, he would introduce himself to the audience, then remove his jacket and tie, roll up his sleeves, and tell them what they came to hear: "You ain't heard nothing yet!" He then proceeded to sing some of his greatest hits like "California Here I Come", "Mammy" and "April Showers", putting more energy into his show than any performer half his age. This photo was taken during that tour, and shows Jolson softly crooning into the microphone during one of the slower numbers. One can almost see into his soul in this remarkable photograph.
