Alhambra Granada Spain Travel Postcard

Alhambra Granada Spain Travel Postcard

Perched atop the Sabika Hill overlooking the city of Granada and the undulating Sierra Nevada beyond, the Alhambra is a sprawling complex of palaces, fortresses, and gardens that stands as the zenith of Nasrid Dynasty architecture. Originally constructed in the mid-13th century under Sultan Muhammad I, it became a lavish royal court where ornate stucco work, intricate tile mosaics, and slender pillars frame sun-dappled courtyards. The iconic Court of the Lions, with its fountain supported by twelve marble lion sculptures and surrounded by a delicate lattice of arches, exemplifies the seamless blend of artistry and engineering—a microcosm of paradise irrigated through a sophisticated hydraulic system. Wandering through the Generalife—the summer palace and its terraced gardens—the air hangs heavy with the scent of orange blossoms and rosewater, while fountains murmur in geometric channels lined with cypress and myrtle. From the Alcazaba’s sturdy watchtowers, you can trace the red-hued ramparts snaking along the ridge, a sentinel from the city walls to the palace halls. After the Christian Reconquest in 1492, Charles V added a Renaissance palace within the complex, its austere stone façade and grand courtyard offering a compelling counterpoint to the delicate Nasrid ornamentation. At dusk, as the sun casts long shadows across the Lion’s Court and the distant peaks of the Sierra Nevada glow violet, the Alhambra reveals itself as not just a monument of conquest and culture, but a timeless testament to human creativity harmonised with the landscape.

Such a huge range of different frogs available, which made my choices very difficult and now the reason I have a whole draw full of cards and postcards! Much better quality than you can buy in the shops and they are exactly on the subject I love and adore too.
