Amasya Turkey Postcard

Amasya, a historic city in northern Turkey, is dramatically situated in a narrow valley of the Yeşilırmak River, overlooked by sheer cliffs. Its most iconic features are the 'Yalıboyu Evleri,' a row of traditional Ottoman houses lining the river, chraacterised by their timber frames and white plaster facades. These houses are so beloved that they are a prime example of preservation efforts. Towering above the city on the cliffs are the Tombs of the Pontic Kings, dating back to the 4th century BC, which are carved directly into the rock face and illuminate the city's ancient roots. Amasya was also an important education centre for Ottoman princes, lending it the moniker 'City of Princes'. It's also famous as the birthplace of the renowned geographer Strabo. The city perfectly blends historical charm, natural beauty, and a rich cultural heritage.
