About This Design

American Revolutionary War Calendar

American Revolutionary War Calendar

The American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) marked a pivotal period in history as the thirteen American colonies sought to break free from British rule and establish their independence. The conflict began in April 1775 with the Battles of Lexington and Concord, where colonial militia clashed with British forces. The following year, the Continental Congress declared independence, and the war intensified. One of the critical turning points came in 1777 with the American victory at the Battle of Saratoga. This triumph convinced the French to formally ally with the Americans, providing crucial military and financial support. In 1781, the war reached its climax at the Siege of Yorktown. American and French forces, led by General George Washington and General Rochambeau, laid siege to the British army commanded by General Cornwallis. The successful siege forced Cornwallis to surrender, effectively ending major military operations in North America. The Treaty of Paris in 1783 officially recognised the United States as an independent nation, marking the end of the Revolutionary War. The conflict had far-reaching consequences, inspiring democratic movements worldwide and shaping the foundation of the United States as a new and sovereign nation.
