    Italian painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1527 – July 11, 1593) painted many traditional portraits during his tenure as court portraitist for Ferdinand I and Maximilian II, but he is best known for his fantastical composite portraits constructed from books, fish, wildlife and vegetables. He painted "The Librarian" in 1566.
