Arepas, a South American food especially popular in Venezuela and Colombia, are a maize (ground corn meal) cake served with various fillings or accompaniments such as cheese, butter, meat, vegetables, or beans. They are sold in a variety of places including street vendors, supermarkets, market stalls, fairs, and annual arepa festivals, and can be eaten as a snack or an accompaniment to a heavier meal.
