Ariadne in Naxos (Classical Greek Myth) Watch
This design features a painting by the English artist Evelyn De Morgan (1855–1919). It shows Ariadne, who was a Cretan princess in Greek mythology. She helpled Theseus escape the Minotaur's labyrinth but was abandoned by him on the island of Naxos. She is shown lying on the beach looking dejected and downhearted. She is a woman of great beauty. The original artwork was painted in 1877.
