Art Deco style kitchen towel - Shoreham Airport

Stunning kitchen towel features Shoreham Airport by digital artist Vicky Vaughan inspired by the Art Deco style architecture. This makes the perfect birthday, anniversary or Christmas gift for dads, husbands, uncles, sons, brothers and any special man in your life. There has been much debate over the name of Shoreham Airport which is officially known as Brighton City Airport. Many people, including the artist, still refer to it is Shoreham Airport and the art deco building is listed. The airport, founded in 1910, is the oldest purpose-built commercial airport in the UK and is based in the parish of Lancing near Shoreham-by-Sea in Sussex. The featured car is a Talbot Lago which was requested by the artists’ father who is a keen collector of car and plane models. There were lots of different shapes and models of the Talbot Lago - however, Vicky preferred the Art Deco style curves of the model she picked to illustrate. The flying plane is the DH89A Dragon Rapide which is constructed in wood and is a twin-engine biplane passenger aircraft. The first operator was Hillman Airways and it made its debut flight at Hatfield on 13 July 1934, averaging 158 mph in the King’s Cup Air Race, before having to retire due to hail damage. Find out more by visiting the de Havilland Museum website. Follow Vicky on www.twitter.com/TheBrandSurgery to find out more about her. With her background in marketing, she is a firm believer in customer co-creation and often posts her “unfinished” work on social media and asks “What else would you like to see?” She also personalizes these illustrations with personal messages.
