"Art Is..." Art Ornament

“Art Is...” is a mixed media piece designed in collaboration with "Art~Women~Wine". I start a sentence on the canvas and leave a “…” for each woman to complete in her own words. Some are handwritten and others are typed. Then they aquavar (a special glue) the words onto the canvas. After we have created the backdrop, I think about the meaning behind all of the words and paint a woman that best fits. I sometimes use chalk to draw everything out and then add paints in layers to create the piece. In this painting, I painted a woman with her head back, eyes closed and face towards the heavens. She is so peaceful and free. I wanted you to feel peaceful when you saw her, and feel the potential power of art in your own life.
