Art Nouveau Lady Small Tote Bag
Art Nouveau Lady Small Tote Bag ... This Art Nouveau style ink drawing is dated April 1, 1917 and signed by my mother's father (my maternal grandfather) Russell L. (Leonard) Swigert ... a farmer in Knox County in Illinois ... of my grandmother Alice M. McPherrin ... the year they married. Their farm was near to and between Knoxville and Galesburg, Illinois at the corner where four townships meet. They had corn and bean fields, hogs, chickens, and cows. The family told me that my art talent came from my maternal grandpa. I remember their beautiful large white farmhouse with a kitchen dining room that had seven doors: kitchen cooking area, porch (with the brass bell to call grandpa in from the fields), wash room / wooden crank party-line telephone room, basement stairs, stairs to second floor and attic, bathroom and through it to grandpa's room, and to the living room where there were five doors: kitchen dining room, grandpa's room, grandma's room (used to be my mum's and aunt's room), the door to the corner mailbox with another set of nice wood stairs to upstairs bedrooms, and the main front door. Grandpa's room had three doors: bathroom (and through it to kitchen dining room), living room, and grandma's room (used to be my mum's and aunt's room). That last door slid into the wall. Grandma's room had two doors: to grandpa's room and to living room. I remember staying overnight there and slept in grandma's room or in one of two of the upstairs bedrooms. A pair of the upstairs bedrooms also had a door between them ... Grandma slept in one when I slept in the other. Grandpa's room had a very tall roll-top desk. In the attic was an old framed photo of my grandpa's father taken after he had died (a common practice back then). That house had so many doors we could go through the house several different ways. It was built by my grandfather's father. My maternal grandfather's father's family arrived from Ohio in the 1800s in a horse-drawn covered wagon and their first settler home was where I remember the chicken house was. Mum remembers when the farmhouse (the one I remember) got electricity put in. Before that they used dangerous kerosene lamps for light and the kitchen had an ice chest to keep food cold in. Ice was delivered for that. The furnace was a coal furnace so coal was delivered for that.

Great, but wish I had made the font bigger, it's quite hard to read. If i had selected bigger font, it would have been better.
