Australian Mounted Rifles Postcard

Australian Mounted Rifles Postcard

The Australian Mounted Rifles played a significant role in the Second Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902) as part of the larger British Commonwealth forces. This contingent consisted of Australian volunteers, many of whom were skilled horsemen and bushmen. They were deployed to South Africa to aid the British Empire in its campaign against the Boer republics. The Australian Mounted Rifles were known for their mobility and adaptability, as they often engaged in mounted infantry tactics, allowing them to swiftly move across the rugged terrain of South Africa. During the conflict, the Australian Mounted Rifles were involved in several key battles and skirmishes, including the Battle of Elands River, the Battle of Sunnyside, and the Siege of Elands River Post. They faced many of the same challenges and hardships that other Commonwealth forces experienced, such as harsh weather conditions and Boer guerrilla tactics. Despite these difficulties, their contributions in the war were significant, and they earned a reputation for their skill and determination. The Australian Mounted Rifles' service in the Boer War marked an important chapter in Australia's military history, as it was one of the nation's earliest overseas deployments and contributed to the development of the Australian identity as a nation willing to serve the British Empire in times of conflict.

Such a huge range of different frogs available, which made my choices very difficult and now the reason I have a whole draw full of cards and postcards! Much better quality than you can buy in the shops and they are exactly on the subject I love and adore too.
