Battle of Kawanakajima by Yoshitora Original Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print Battle of Kawanakajima Comments - Fantastic scene from the Battle of Kawanakajima along the banks of a river. At right, the great warrior Yamamoto Kansuke, who was blind in one eye, gallops across fallen enemies under a shower of arrows, wielding his sword overhead as he rides. He faces an opponent on the ground who grips a spear with both hands, leaning back and bracing for the confrontation. Above him, Takeda Nobushige swings a sword as he rides a dappled horse. Fighting continues all around, with troops rushing through the flowing current at right and a general waving a tasseled command baton on the shore at left. A great image filled with energy and action, with fine detail in the armour and weapons.
