I'm fascinated by these ancient mariners, and even experienced one swimming beside me in Hawaii while I was snorkelling. This amphibian marine reptile is an amazing creature, knowing when to migrate to shore to lay their nests, and then head back out to sea. Seven different species of sea or marine turtles can be found from the shallow seagrass beds of coral reefs to the warm waters of Mexico to the sandy beaches of the Eastern Pacific. Some of the most common turtles species are green, hawksbill, loggerhead, leatherback, and olive ridley. Turtles struggle with loss of habitat, confusion from light pollution, and fishing nets, with various organisations working towards their preservation.
