Within many mythical beasts, there may have been a REAL beast that inspired it. Some historians have suggested the ceratopsian, Protoceratops may have been the inspiration for the mythical griffin. Although geographically this may not add up, considering where the earliest griffin art is from and where Protoceratops bones are known to be found. However, the thought of dinosaur bones inspiring mythical creatures thousands of years ago still may have been a reality in some other cases.
