About This Design

Berlin Historic Calendar

Berlin Historic Calendar

Berlin, even before World War I, was a city rich in historic landmarks and grand architecture. The Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor), built between 1788 and 1791, is one of the most iconic symbols of Berlin. This neoclassical triumphal arch served as a symbol of peace and unity and marked the western entrance to the city. It was commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia and stands as a testament to Prussia's military victories. The Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom) is another pre-World War I architectural masterpiece. Completed in 1905, this majestic Protestant cathedral is renowned for its stunning domed structure and intricate interior design. Situated on Museum Island (Museumsinsel), it was a reflection of the city's cultural and artistic aspirations at the time. Additionally, the Reichstag Building, originally constructed in 1894, housed the German Imperial Diet (Reichstag). Its historic significance lay not only in its role as a political centre but also in its architectural grandeur. These pre-World War I landmarks and buildings, along with many others, showcased Berlin's cultural and political prominence in Europe during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
