"Berlin Wall Kiss Mural, East Side Gallery, Germany" by Catherine Sherman. "My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love" is a graffiti painting by Dmitri Vrubel on the eastern side of the Berlin Wall in the East Side Gallery in Berlin, Germany. Sometimes known as the "Fraternal Kiss," the mural depicts Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker in a socialist fraternal kiss, reproducing a photograph taken in 1979 during the 30th anniversary celebration of the foundation of the German Democratic Republic. The artwork includes text and credits the artist and his assistant. The East Side Gallery memorial in Berlin-Friedrichshain is a permanent open-air gallery on the longest surviving section of the Berlin Wall in Mühlenstrasse between the Berlin Ostbahnhof and the Oberbaumbrücke along the Spree River. "My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love" has become one of the best known works of graffiti art on the Berlin Wall. Originally painted in 1990, the painting, along with others, was erased from the wall in March 2009 to allow the original artists to repaint them with more durable paints.
