This mid 19th century US Political History print titled ‘You must make your choice. Birds of a feather flock together Miller's national unity series, no. 3’ features the Republican Party’s presidential campaign with candidate Ulysses S. Grant placed between the portraits of former presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. In contrast, candidates and members of the Democratic Party, namely Horace Greeley, Southern statesmen John C. Calhoun and former president of the Confederacy Jefferson Davis, are depicted as symbols of ‘Secession’ and ‘Nullification’.
