The Tarantula Nebula, or 30 Doradus, is a spectacular cloud of cosmic dust and particles, stellar emissions and other gasses, moving at hurricane force. This brilliant phenomenon is about 160,000 light years from Earth. The image above (thanks to Hubble technology!) shows a star cluster known as R136, with a diameter of about 35 light years, which is found at the core of the Tarantula Nebula and produces much of the energy needed to create the nebula's intense luminosity. New stars are being born at a fantastic rate, making it the most active starburst region of the galaxies closest to the Milky Way. The nebula is also home to an older star cluster, in which many of the more massive stars have already gone supernova. This cosmic creation poster is 24" x 24", printed on semi-gloss poster paper.
