Black-capped Chickadee Art Card

A few winters ago, my partner and I made a delightful discovery while bird-watching in a local park. We were watching a group of chickadees going about their birdie business when they tentatively started to approach us. Once they were about a foot away, my partner and I exchanged a look, and he slowly offered them his upturned palm. Without hesitation, one jumped into his empty hand, her enthusiasm quickly turning to confusion once she realized there were no seeds. We felt guilty afterwards about tricking them, but from then on, knowing we had hand-tamed chickadees in our local park, we would bring them an offering of sunflower seeds each time we’d visit.
