This amazing American type akita is named Kuma. Kuma’s sweetness shines from his eyes, his gentle expression was always mesmerising, his amazing black muzzle and pale tan fur was such a pleasure to paint. Kuma’s portrait has a green background to emphasize his akita unique colours. This extra special dog was one of my early pet portraits and I painted him in soft pastels. What a wonderful breed the Japanese akita dog is, loyal and very smart as well as being extraordinarily beautiful dogs. Akita's are also very independent large dogs with big hearts.
