This is a typical black smith shop, if you are really old or really poor or just really like the look of old tools. It's said, that a good anvil will ring when you hit it. The density and durability gives it a sort of clank sound when you strike a hammer against it. While some argue that it doesn't have to ring, it should bounce back a little. When the hammer strikes the hot metal, the anvil repels the blow and sort of helps the smith flatten the metal. Now this sound is super annoying, and fairly loud. See that chain on it? This chain may be seen on all sorts of anvils. And while you may think that its a bike lock for anvil thieves, in reality, it acts as a shock absorber, and helps dull down the clank sound.
