“Branding a Steer” by Frank Tenney Johnson Tissue Paper

Frank Tenney Johnson was a painter of the Old American West. His popular “Moonlight” technique gave the illusion of moonlight and stars drenching his images with mystery and atmosphere. This painting is called “Branding a Steer” and depicts a cowboy branding a wild young steer in a cloud of dust. The animal is on his back and held taut by a rope from the herder's horse while another cowhand rides in to help.
