The first black regiment was the U.S. 10th Cavalry Regiment formed September 21, 1866 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. These freedom fighters of civil rights served during the American Indian Wars, Spanish American War, Philippine American War, World War I, and World War II. . We celebrate him and other black men and women every year during black history month in February.
