Burnt Village in Winter (by Albert Edelfelt) Tissue Paper
This design features a painting by the Finnish-Swedish artist Albert Gustaf Aristides Edelfelt (1854–1905). It depicts an imaginary scene from the time of Cudgel War of 1596–1597, which was a peasant uprising in Finland, then part of the Kingdom of Sweden. A family can be seen here that has fled their village after it has been burnt to the ground by a military attack. There is an old man with a young girl and and a younger boy. The girl has long hair in pigtails and she is peering over a pile of rocks to glimpse at her destroyed village. The man is sitting with his possessions and he holds a crossbow, but he looks sad and defeated. The young boy beside him appears terrified. There are some skis on the ground beside the family. The landscape is white with snow. The original artwork was painted by Albert Edelfelt in 1879.
