Callanish Standing Stones, Scotland Card

The Callanish Stones on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland are situated on a low ridge above the waters of Loch Roag with the hills of Great Bernera as a backdrop. They consist of a circle of thirteen stones with a monolith near the middle. The existence of other monuments in the area implies that this area was a focus for prehistoric religious activity for at least 1500 years duration. Historic Environment Scotland, which manages the site, states that the Callanish Stones were erected roughly 5,000 years ago, predating Stonehenge.
