Caño Cristales, frequently hailed as the 'River of Five Colours' or the 'Liquid Rainbow,' is a breathtaking biological wonder located in the remote Serranía de la Macarena national park in Colombia. For most of the year, it appears as an ordinary river, but during the brief window between the wet and dry seasons, it bursts into a vibrant kaleidoscope of colours. This stunning phenomenon is caused by the Macarenia clavigera, an endemic aquatic plant that turns a brilliant shade of red, complemented by yellow and green sand, blue water, and dark rock formations. The river's pristine waters flow over ancient rock formations that are part of the Guiana Shield, creating a dramatic landscape of circular natural pools, cascading waterfalls, and deep caverns.
