Car - Factory - Engine testing 1903 Poster

Colourized photo from 1903 Original title: The testing room, Leland & Faulconer Manf Location: Detroit, Mi Henry Leland, originally worked with Henry Ford when he was very young. Before assembly lines were invented by Henry Ford, Leland invented universal parts. Before, each engine was created one by one, and nothing really matched. Leland created stock parts that made it a lot easier to repair. He used to work in a gun factory, and learned how to machine parts, which he then later used to build his factory and his cars. As a demonstration he took two cars apart, mixed the parts and put it all back together again. The company earned the nickname, "the standard of the world". The difference between Ford and LeLand's factory was their method of approach for assembly. Leland had one person standing in front of one item building it all. Ford moved the item to the person that specialised in that one job. These engines by the way are single cylinder engines, and this is the room they test them. Exactly what they do I don't know, how caustic it was to be in there, I also don't know, it was dark though. I also don't know how they moved parts around, I assume it was done by hand.

I originally ordered this print in a larger size but was not pleased with the clarity of it. When I contacted Zazzle, they responded really quickly and were very helpful. I was able to reorder the print in a smaller size and it was shipped to me within a couple of weeks. The print was packaged well to ensure there was no damage during transit (Eco friendly, too!), and I am really pleased with it. I am so grateful to the customer service team for the professional way they handled my order. I had this printed on matt finish card and I was really pleased with the quality. The colours were rich and the image sharp.
