A black and white photo is shown as an example, and it lets the gold circle that's part of the 'save the date' text stand out. The sample photo you see was actually a colour photo until we used the black and white filter that you'll see among various other filters you can use when you start to play with customising this. The black and white filter is the default setting at the moment, so if you use a colour photo it should automatically change it, unless you deactivate this filter.
