I was hanging out in Third Place Books, the store in Lake Forest Park, Washington, while waiting to meet the Bloggess (Jenny Lawson) following her book reading. After the reading had finished, the bookstore's employees put everything in the leisure area back where it was supposed to go, and this apparently included a massive chessboard made of enormous wooden chessmen (and chesswomen?) on top of a chequered rug. I was enthraled and decided to take some photographs of it. This was taken while lying down in the middle of the chessboard's rug. I was trying to capture some of the feelings that Alice must have experienced while being very small in comparison to the chess pieces.
