The design is based on a fine Qing dynasty square silk that was in the imperial court during the Qianlong period (1736-1795) of the Qing Dynasty in China. This meticulously crafted square silk panel from China’s Qing Dynasty showcases the opulence of imperial stationery. Measuring approximately 40x40 cm, it features a rich crimson silk base dyed with natural cinnabar, a technique perfected during the Qianlong reign. The design highlights two golden dragons—their scales detailed with silver foil—chasing a flaming pearl, symbolising imperial authority and cosmic harmony. Gold-leaf tracery outlines the dragons, while faint cloud motifs in silver evoke celestial auspiciousness. Historically used as a luxurious writing pad or decorative liner for imperial scrolls, this piece embodies the fusion of artistry and symbolism in Qing court culture.
