City MD - Pratt St - Beer and More 1906 Left half Jigsaw Puzzle

Colourized photo 1906 Original title: The Basin Photographer: Detroit Publishing Location: East Pratt and Calvert streets This is what East Pratt street looked like in around 1906. It's hard to figure out the actual date, other than another image was taken at this time of this area that did have that date. You see on February 8th 1904, a huge fire broke out and it spread over the entire town, it lasted for days, smouldering for weeks, ruined over a thousand businesses. But this area, was hit last, partly saved by firefighters using the water from the bay and dousing the area fighting back the fires. And they were successful for a little while. When the fire spread to the harbour right of this image, eventually parts of this street also were destroyed. If you look at the buildings, many of them look brand new, and some of them look quite old. The building in the middle has a marker stating it was 1904, but I don't know if that's when the building went up or was finished on. The entire town was almost all rebuilt in a year anyway. But some of these buildings look old, I think Light street and parts of this street were spared. This area was called the Basin, today we call it the Inner Harbour, however this area, that's water now, is currently a building. They filled in this area to expand land, that's why it will look different on a map. This image is the Left half of a 2 image panorama (which was actually a 4 image panorama). It shows off the New Fountain hotel, feed stores, a place that has beer, and quite a few boats. It was very muddy there it seems. Presumably there was more water behind these buildings because I do see masts there. Sadly none of these buildings exist today, they were removed in the 1960's to 1970's. Today this area houses large restaurants, and a large ship. It's hard to imagine it looked like this if you look at map today. For bearings, the hotel is at 122 East Pratt.
