Claude Monet - Argenteuil Tile

Argenteuil, 1875 - Claude Monet, oil on canvas. Claude Monet (Paris, 1840 - Giverny, 1926) was a French Impressionist painter. Monet settled in Argenteuil, a popular recreation area northwest of Paris, in December 1871, and around 1875 he painted a series of boat scenes there. In this version, sailboats lie at anchor in the basin, and their vermilion hulls stand out sharply against the blue sky and water and the green vegetation. Fragmented brushstrokes give the scene its shimmer, while the vertical masts structure the composition. Monet also departs from traditional perspective, letting the receding lines diverge instead of converge.
