About This Design

Claude Monet - Rouen Cathedral at sunset Tile

Claude Monet - Rouen Cathedral at sunset Tile

Rouen Cathedral at Sunset (Cathédrale de Rouen, effet de soleil, fin de journée), painted in 1892 in oil on canvas by French Impressionist Claude Monet in Rouen. Monet returned to Rouen repeatedly to study the cathedral façade under changing light. Rather than treating the building as a fixed architectural subject, he used broken colour to record the way stone seemed to change from minute to minute as the sun lowered. The tightly cropped façade turns the Gothic monument into a surface of light, shadow and warm evening colour.

My fiancé and I were happy when we received the tile. It’s Peru and was worth paying extra for expressing postage. Good quality and it is exactly like we wanted it. We are very pleased.
