About This Design

Claude Monet - Water Lilies Tile

Claude Monet - Water Lilies Tile

Water Lilies - Morning with Willows (Les Nymphéas - Le Matin aux saules), 1914-1926 - Claude Monet, oil on canvas. Claude Monet (Paris, 1840 - Giverny, 1926) was a French Impressionist painter. This close-up comes from a three-panel composition in Monet's late decorative cycle. In the full work, two willow trunks create strong vertical accents across an exceptionally elongated view of the pond, their tops cut off and only a fragment of the bank indicated. The detail shown here keeps one trunk at the left edge and long willow branches hanging over drifting lilies, so that familiar spatial cues are deliberately weakened. Water, reflected sky and vegetation merge into a continuous painted field. The composition was conceived as part of the immersive ensemble Monet donated to the French state in 1922, where related panels respond to one another across the room.
