The Clematis is a rather herbaceous climbing plant from the family of Hahnenfußwerke and is growing in both the North and South hemispheres in temperate climates. Presumably, the first wild species in China grew. From there, in the 17th century, they reached Japan to conquer the West a century later. There are hundreds of species, of which the blue Clematis jackmanii has been an integral part of European gardens since 1862.
