The design centres on a rich red shield featuring the city's patron saint, Saint Dimitrie (Demetrius). He is depicted as a Roman legionary, symbolising protection and spiritual strength, holding a spear and a cross. This shield is placed upon the chest of a majestic golden eagle, a symbol of Romanian Latinity and sovereignty, which holds an Orthodox cross in its beak, a silver sword for defence in its right claw, and a sceptre of authority in its left.
