This is an up-close and personal view of the Statue of President Lincoln in Lytle Park, Cincinnati, Ohio (OH). Circa 1917. It is a keepsake of the U.S.A. Civil War, a time in history when the Republican party was steeped in values, moral issues, and a sense of right and wrong worth dying for. The statue is closely cropped of the face for drama and impact. This statue was Teddy Roosevelt's favourite statue of Lincoln, while Lincoln's son, Robert Todd, really did not like the portrayal. Donated to the city of Cincinnati by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Phelps Taft. Sculpture by George Grey Barnard of New York, the beardless portrayal was at first shocking to Cincinnatians with its gaunt and weary features but later gained international fame. It was restored as a gift to the city by Mr. and Mrs. Eleftherios Karkadoulias and rededicated in 1972. Lytle Park was founded in Cincinnati, OH in 1907. Lytle Park Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
