The Chance Vought F4U Corsair saw service in World War II and the Korean War. It quickly became the most capable carrier-based fighter-bomber of World War II. The whistling sound generated by its wing air-intakes and turbocharged engine, earned it the nickname "Whistling Death." During World War II, it was the fighter the Japanese feared the most. The average kill-rate was for every F4U shot down, 11 enemy aircraft were shot down.
