The Cosmic Cliffs "Near Infrared Camera" is actually the edge of a gigantic gaseous cavity within Carina Nebula. It is roughly 7,600 light-years away from Earth. The cavernous area has been carved from the nebula by the intense ultraviolet radiation and stellar winds from extremely massive young stars in the centre of the bubble. This file is in the public domain in the United States because it was solely created by NASA. NASA copyright policy states that "NASA material is not protected by copyright unless noted".
