Da Silvestra’s Map to King Solomon’s Mines Poster
This facsimile map is taken from an 1885 first edition of H. Rider Haggard’s classic adventure tale King Solomon’s Mines in the www.soldiersofthequeen.com archives. Haggard states in the novel that the map reproduces that which was drawn by the ill-fated Portuguese explorer Don José da Silvestra in his own blood in 1590. Haggard also states that the map was in the possession of Allan Quatermain and was used as a guide when he led Sir Henry Curtis and Captain Good on the epic adventure to discover the long lost mines of King Solomon. The map’s original caption is reproduced with all of the Victorian quirks in grammar and punctuation that appeared in the 1885 original.
