I went to the Botanic Gardens at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA to test out my new camera. I love dahlias, and was practicing on them when I found this bee as a bonus! The shot is a close-up of a honeybee on the yellow centre stamens of a semi-cactus dahlia. Its eight single, partially curled petals are red on the outside and pink inside, and they form a star pattern around the bee's dark vertical body and transparent wings. The fold of the petals gives an impression of an additional layer of pink petals around the centre cluster of yellow stamens. Against a blurred background of green and yellow garden, the flower is focused just left of centre. Pt. Defiance is a great spot to smell the flowers, or photograph them. Just make sure there's no bee in the flower before you sniff it! Copyright Gail Storrs 2007.

This is a bright, colorful greeting card that shows the subject well. It's great for a general card to say hello or let someone know you're thinking about them. It could also easily be customized into a birthday or other greeting card. The printing is sharp, with good colors. I think this item turned out great!
